Shema Yisrael - The Oneness of G-dWe have many choices how to react when Israel is under extreme attack, as we are now, may G-d have mercy on us, both in the holy land in Israel and around the world through extreme acts of violent antisemitism against Jews. Ultimately, the main response of the Jewish people is unity, focusing on the Oneness of G-d. We continue to work to overcome our differences and unite as one people in service of Hashem. We remind each other that "Hashem is not our employee," as Racheli Frankel, wise mother of one of the murdered teens told a group of children at the kotel when their sad fate was still in doubt:
"Children, I want to tell you something. I believe with all my heart that they will return, but whatever happens, whatever happens... Hashem is not our employee. Your shouldn't be broken if something else happens, OK? And stay together." And isn't that, my friends, the message of the shema that we recite several times every day? G-d is not our employee to order about with our prayers. And what if a prayer isn't answered? What if our lives are endangered? We shouldn't be broken and we should stay together as one people, one nation, one family, remembering that G-d is in charge of the world and there is nothing else but G-d. How do you feel about all that's going on right now? What do you think we can do to bring peace? Please share your insights in the comments section below. |
