What is a mitzvah, anyway?
The Hebrew word mitzvah is related to the word tzavta which means,
connection. Every mitzvah is an act of connection linking us to our
Jewish heritage, the spiritual core of our soul, and to G-d, Himself.
Performing mitzvahs endows our lives, homes, and communities
with increased warmth, sensitivity, depth and joy.
Maimonides writes that a person should always see himself
and the entire world as equally balanced between good and evil.
With just one positive deed, one can tip the balance and bring
salvation for the entire world.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson declared,"
Moshiach is ready to come. All that we have to do, is to add in acts of
Goodness and Kindness." Maybe the final act of goodness that tips
the scale to Redemption will be yours!
More powerful than angels!
Our sages tell us that one penny in the pushke (charity box) contains more
spiritual energy than all of the angels in the universe combined! Tzedakah
has a tremendous power to bring light into the world and to erase the wrong
that we have done.
